Job Description

Reporting to the R&D Laboratory Manager, the Chemist shall be responsible for performing chemical and materials characterization analyses using validated instrumental methods, including ICP-OES, XRD, BET surface area analysis, tap density measurements, and particle size distribution analysis. The Chemist shall prepare samples in accordance with approved procedures and shall conduct testing activities in compliance with applicable quality, safety, and regulatory requirements.

All activities shall be performed in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and safety protocols. The Chemist shall be responsible for the proper setup, operation, calibration, and routine maintenance of laboratory equipment. The Chemist shall ensure accurate data acquisition, recording, verification, and tabulation, and shall maintain complete and traceable documentation of observations, test conditions, and results in accordance with the laboratory quality management system.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Follow all safety rules and requirements.
• Analytical testing of materials, finished products, customer samples, and components. This testing will primarily utilize instruments such as ICP-OES, XRD, BET , tap density, and particle size analyzer .
• Performs QC testing, generates Certificate of Analysis, and maintains documentation for QA/QC program.
• Trains other lab personnel on the laboratory equipment and procedures.
• Becomes familiar with the appropriate specifications and methods for testing.
• Executes mathematical calculations outlined in the test methods.
• Analyses data to determine if the material tested meets specifications.
• Maintains meticulous records and assists with laboratory audits.
• Prepares data summaries and reports for customers.
• Assists with the development of a laboratory and company-wide quality management plan.
• Assists with the preparation and shipping of samples to customers and field agents.
• Assists with the preparation of safety data and product data sheets.
• Maintains material inventory in the lab, maintains laboratory safety data sheet files.
• Maintains a clean and orderly work area. Cleans counters and storage areas and maintains records of samples. Consolidates samples for disposal as directed.
• Maintains the organization and operational efficiency of the laboratory, working towards continuous improvement.
• Complies with all ANSI, EPA, DOT, and OSHA regulations and company policy, including hazardous wastes.
• Reports all accidents, injuries/illnesses, spills to supervisor.
• Adheres to ISO documents and meets company/department quality, environmental & safety objectives.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
• 1 + years of experience in laboratory work must include preparation of samples, following written procedures, record keeping, and excellent interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work for extended periods of time without direct supervision.
• 1+years of experience, including practical experience with ICP OES and wet chemistry techniques. XRD experience is a plus. Use of Microsoft Office products, especially Microsoft Excel is a must.
