Job Description

Job Summary:


The General X-Ray Technician is responsible for performing radiographic imaging procedures, ensuring patient safety and comfort, and maintaining accurate records. This role requires proficiency in operating X-ray equipment, positioning patients, and collaborating with radiologists and other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality diagnostic images. The position also involves on-call duties, callbacks, and holiday coverage as per unit needs, with a requirement to report within 30 minutes for on-call shifts.

Responsibilities:


- Verifying patients' identity and reviewing physicians' orders before beginning x-ray procedures.
- Using x-ray equipment to take radiographic images of patients' bones, tissues, and organs as per physicians' written orders.
- Explaining x-ray procedures to patients and answering their questions.
- Positioning patients accordingly, which may include lifting and moving patients with limited mobility.
- Handling all radiologic equipment safely and properly, keeping dose to patient as low as possible.
- Observing each patient's status and interpreting the appropriate information needed to meet his or her age-specific needs.
- Producing diagnostic, high-quality images for interpretation by the Radiologist.
- Promptly notifying management of damaged or malfunctioning x-ray equipment.
- Utilizing electronic patient information systems to verify patient information and exam details.
- Maintaining accurate patient record keeping by properly identifying images and assuring images are sent to the PACS system correctly.

Required Skills & Certifications:


- Completion of formal training in an approved School of Radiologic Technology.
- Certification through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
- NYS license (or ability to obtain license prior to starting).
- BLS (American Heart Association ONLY).
- 2 years of X-ray Technologist experience.
- Experience using c-arm/o-arm in the past 8 months.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:


- Level 1 trauma center experience

Special Considerations:


- On-call duties, callbacks, and holiday coverage required per unit needs.
- Must be able to report within 30 minutes to on-call shifts.

Scheduling:
- Work schedule, shift type, and shift assignments are determined by unit needs.
