Job Description

Post Haste is a New American cocktail bar and restaurant in the Fishtown/East Kensington area that focuses on sourcing locally and seasonally. Our concept is to create a world class cocktail bar with a robust food program, which reduces the typical restaurant carbon footprint by sourcing all ingredients as locally as possible. We were named one of the best bars in the country by Esquire, and one of the 15 essential cocktail bars in Philadelphia by Eater.

We are searching for a Line Cook with a strong work ethic and positive attitude. Our kitchen team produces most of our menu from scratch including pasta, pastries, sauces, fermented items and more. This is an excellent opportunity for a hard working individual who is interested in learning new styles of cooking and is interested in working with local & seasonal ingredients.

You will be expected to inventory, prep and set up your own station, and should be familiar with what it takes to work a station in a casual fine-dining restaurant. You should also be comfortable working with a close-knit team of 2-3 people. Our staff is small, but our menu is mighty! 

Our ideal Line Cook is looking to work 3-4 shifts per week, totaling 35-40 hours. You will be cross-trained on multiple stations, and will be in charge of the prep and inventory of the station they are working. There is not one cuisine that rules our program, instead we offer creative dishes with locally sourced ingredients from the Mid-Atlantic that are approachable, yet exciting and craveable.

Job Duties

  1. The line cooks will prep and maintain the stations they are designated to work each service with integrity and cleanliness.
  2. Cook, plate, garnish, and expedite dishes as needed
  3. Maintain a daily and nightly prep list, adhering to the prep systems put into place, and communicate openly about any prep concerns. This is a team environment, and we thrive by helping each other openly and proactively.
  4. Work clean, and assist with both nightly and monthly deep clean projects
  5. Maintain a positive and professional approach with coworkers and customers
  6. Contribute to daily staff meal and have the opportunity to eat staff meal prior to each service.
  7. With the right work ethic and grasping of the stations and dishes, there are creative opportunities built into the menu that will allow for the entire kitchen team to contribute to the menu.

Job Expectations

  1. Ability to follow recipes/menu items with little or no difficulty
  2. You will be responsible for preparing all food items according to prep sheets and standardized recipes with speed, efficiency and consistency of quality.
  3. Proactively minimizing waste and looking for opportunities to cross-utilize ingredients.
  4. Ensuring that all work areas remain clean and organized
  5. Ensuring that all food products are stored properly; and completing cleaning and organizational duties as assigned.
  6. Easy, friendly and positive communication with supervisors and coworkers
  7. Ability to efficiently set up and maintain workstation
  8. Ability to handle average amounts of prep work and work 2-3 stations with little or no difficulty and minimal assistance

Required Education and Experience

  1. Must be a team player with a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn.
  2. Must be able to work flexible hours and days, anywhere from 4-5 days a week.
  3. Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.
  4. 1-2 years experience as a line cook or intern/extern are preferred. However, we will consider all experiences and education.
  5. Interest and knowledge of sustainability practices, with creative thinking in ingredient preparation and preservation, especially in relation to food waste, is valued. This is not a requirement, but a willingness to learn about these things will be required.
  6. Experience and passion about vegetarian and vegan dishes is preferred. General knowledge of French and classic European techniques/dishes/sauces/verbiage is excellent.
