About the role
The Payments & Stripe Integration Engineer – SwishShop is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining payment systems and Stripe integrations that power the SwishShop marketplace. Reporting to the Product Director – SwishShop and working closely with Backend, Finance, and Security teams, this role ensures secure, reliable, and compliant payment flows for customers, vendors, and the platform in a global, remote-first environment.
This is a specialised engineering role focused on payments, billing, and financial integrations.
Key Responsibilities
Stripe & Payments Integration
Design, implement, and maintain Stripe integrations for payments, subscriptions, and payouts
Support marketplace payment flows, vendor payouts, and refunds
Ensure correct handling of webhooks and payment events
Billing, Invoicing & Reconciliation Support
Implement billing logic, invoicing, and payment status handling
Support reconciliation between Stripe and internal systems
Work with Finance teams on payment accuracy and reporting
Security, Compliance & Risk
Ensure payment flows meet security and compliance requirements
Support PCI-related controls and secure handling of payment data
Implement fraud prevention and risk mitigation measures
Reliability, Monitoring & Incident Support
Monitor payment systems and integration health
Respond to and resolve payment-related incidents
Support post-incident analysis and improvements
Testing, Documentation & Collaboration
Write automated tests for payment flows and edge cases
Document payment architectures, workflows, and APIs
Collaborate with Product, Support, and Operations teams
Expectations
Deliver reliable, secure, and auditable payment systems
Apply rigorous testing and validation practices
Communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders
Operate effectively in a fully remote environment
Requirements
Experience
Proven experience integrating Stripe or similar payment platforms
Experience building payment, billing, or subscription systems
Experience working in remote or distributed teams preferred
Experience in marketplace or e-commerce platforms is an advantage
Skills
Strong backend engineering skills
In-depth knowledge of Stripe APIs, webhooks, and payment flows
Understanding of payment security, compliance, and fraud concepts
Strong problem-solving and debugging skills
Clear written and verbal communication abilities
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
Payments or fintech certifications preferred but not required
