Multiple Shifts Available: UAB Medicine supports work/life balance. The shifts available on this unit are:
- Full time AM: 3 12-hour shifts per week (6:30 AM - 7:00 PM)
- Full time PM: 3 12-hour shifts per week (6:30 PM - 7:00 AM)
- Flexi/PRN Unit Details : The Hospitalist 1 Unit is a 20-bed acute care unit that provides care for patients with a wide variety of clinical diagnoses, including conditions such as congestive heart failure, COPD, cellulitis, pneumonia, and UTIs. Advanced technology in the form of tele-acute nursing support is enabled to help bedside staff treat their varied patient population. This allows experienced nurses to offer assistance and guidance to bedside staff virtually via video monitoring equipment in the rooms. This unit recently earned a Nursing Communication HCAHPS performance domain score of Level 5 for delivering excellent care and achieving high levels of patient satisfaction. UAB Hospital Medicine, or Hospitalist, was the first hospital medicine program in the state of Alabama and one of the first in the Southeast. They provide care for the largest population of patients discharged from UAB Medicine.

Job Description :
To assume responsibility for certain technical aspects of patient care as directed by the RN/LPN for the hospital. To obtain and record vitals, weight, inputs, and outputs. To successfully complete an in-house PCT training program. To demonstrate an awareness of patient and personal safety.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist patient with everyday needs, including bathing, restroom/bedpan assistance, etc.

  • To assume responsibility for certain technical aspects of patient care as directed by the RN/LPN for the hospital

  • Monitor vital signs (temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respirations, weights, input and outputs)

  • Obtain EKGs

  • Draw blood and perform finger sticks

  • Obtain fluid samples or other specimens for testing

  • Assist nursing staff in administering basic treatments

  • Notify nursing staff of any issues or concerns

  • Keep patient rooms clean and sanitized

  • Ensure rooms have adequate patient care supplies

  • Assist patients with particular issues or needs

  • Provide appropriate emotional support

  • Committed to health care standards

  • Demonstrate an awareness of patient and personal safety

  • Empathetic and approachable

  • Work as a part of the health care team

  • Successful completion of PCT orientation

  • CPR certified within 30 days of employment

Qualifications

High School diploma or GED required. Certified with Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) within thirty (30) days of date of employment required.
