Main Function

The Staff Physical Therapist plans, evaluates, and implements individualized treatment programs based on each patient’s unique needs. Working as part of an interdisciplinary rehab team , the therapist helps patients restore function, improve mobility, and achieve their highest level of independence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and evaluate physician referrals and patient needs

  • Develop and implement personalized physical therapy programs

  • Utilize various modalities such as exercise, gait training, ultrasound, hot/cold therapy, electrical stimulation, and traction

  • Instruct patients in the safe use of assistive devices (wheelchairs, canes, braces, etc.)

  • Monitor patient progress, document treatment plans and results, and adjust care as needed

  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary team members

  • Maintain compliance with all hospital safety, infection control, and quality improvement standards

  • Supervise and mentor support staff and assist in department operations

  • Participate in continuing education and maintain licensure and certifications

Qualifications

  • Licensed (or eligible for licensure) in Physical Therapy in the State of New York

  • BLS Certification (required within 90 days of hire)

  • Experience in a hospital or inpatient care setting preferred

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift at least 30 pounds independently and up to 150 pounds with assistance

  • Regular standing, bending, and lifting associated with patient care activities
