Protective Coatings Finisher – Metal Fabrication

Snapshot
- Reports to: Production Supervisor
- Primary focus: Apply solvent- and water-based coatings to manufactured steel components to meet spec and finish standards.
- Environment: Fast-paced manufacturing with cross-functional teamwork and ERP-driven workflows.
Core responsibilities
- Verify job traveler and coating requirements; match correct color and sheen.
- Mix paint accurately; configure spray equipment; fine-tune settings for coverage and finish.
- Inspect completed pieces for defects and thickness consistency.
- Maintain spray equipment and the paint exhaust filter system for peak performance.
- Handle materials manually or with hoist/crane/forklift to stage and position parts.
- Adhere to safe manufacturing processes, shop safety rules, and good housekeeping.
- Jump in as a paint line attendant when production demands.
- Perform additional tasks that support schedule and quality goals.
Qualifications
- High school diploma/GED, or 6–12 months related manufacturing/painting experience or training, or equivalent combination.
- Basic computer literacy; able to learn and utilize ERP tools.
- Can read shop drawings/prints; proficient with a tape measure.
- Math skills with fractions/decimals; calculator use.
- Embodies honesty, integrity, respect, teamwork, and collaboration.
- Physically able to occasionally lift/move up to 50 lbs and at times more than 100 lbs; color vision and focus adjustment; frequent twisting, turning, grasping, reaching, pulling; prolonged standing.
- PPE: OSHA-approved safety shoes with metatarsal guards, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, respirator, painter’s suit.
- Willing to work as needed on any shift.
