Receptionist Needed for All Shifts Location Brooklyn, NY (Canarsie area) :

General Description: The Receptionist perform a variety of clerical and support duties in an efficient manner in accordance with established policies and procedures, and as directed.

Essential Functions: Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday. Must be able to speak the English language in an understandable manner. Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional aspect of the position. Must be able to see and hear, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure that the requirements of this position can be fully met. Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel and support agencies. Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability. Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset and at times hostile people within the facility.

Educational Requirements: Must have High school diploma or Equivalent. Prior Receptionist/Customer Service experience preferred with knowledge of usage of multiple phone system.

Employment Variables: The receptionist must be a good moral character. Some clerical experience desired, but not necessary. Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language in an understandable manner to facilitate effective communication and follow oral and written instructions. Must be willing to cooperate with supervisors, fellow employees, and department heads. Must be willing to work with geriatric residents. Must possess a high degree of personal cleanliness and hygiene.

Specific Requirements: Must be able to write the English language in a legible and understanding manner. Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action. Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public. Must be a minimum of 18 yrs. of age. Must be knowledgeable of regulations and guidelines that pertain to Long Term Care. Must work harmoniously with professional and non professional personnel. Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies and procedures, etc., that are necessary for providing quality care. Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents. Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing work practices.

Working Conditions:

Works in well lighted and ventilated office areas. Sits, stands, bends, lifts and moves intermittently during working hours. Is subject to frequent interruptions. Is involved with residents, visitors, personnel, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances. Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, visitors and personnel. Communicates with staff and other department supervisors. Is willing to work beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary. Is involved in community/civic health matters/projects as appropriate. Attends and participates in continuing educational program designed to keep abreast of changes in Long Term Care as necessary.

JOB DUTIES: Answer switchboard, determine nature of call and direct caller to appropriate individual or department.

Receive inquiries and release or withhold information in accordance with established policies, procedures and HIPAA regulations.

Assure that assigned work areas are maintained in a clean, safe, comfortable and attractive manner.

Maintain a current file/listing of residents by name and room numbers, emergency phone numbers, department extensions, key personnel. Etc.

Give directions/information to visitors, guest, residents, sales representatives, delivery personnel, contractors, etc.

Maintain confidentiality of all pertinent resident care information.

Reports suspicious persons/information to supervisor immediately.

Ensures guests /visitors abide by existing rules and refuse admission to persons as directed. Ensures all guests/visitors etc. sign in the appropriate book ( to include time of arrival and departure.)

Keeps updated photographs of all residents in order to prevent anyone from wandering out of the building.

Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment.

Greet visitors. Direct to appropriate office and /or resident's room.

Receive mail, send to Executive Office for sorting, and distribute as directed.

Randomly inspects bags coming into or going out of the facility.

Ensures doors are properly closed and alarmed.

Records residents entering or leaving the facility in the appropriate log book.

Reports all Fire Safety incidents in the appropriate log book.

Reports any needed supplies, faulty equipment and safety hazards to appropriate Department Head/Supervisor.

Assures that assigned work areas are maintained in a clean, safe, comfortable, and attractive manner.

Follows established fire safety policies and procedures. Participates in the emergency response team.

Attends in- service education as required.

May perform other duties as directed by the Director of Housekeeping/, Administrator and /or Designee and assist in areas of the department as directed.

Job Type: Full-time/Part Time/Per diem

Pay: $18.00 - 20.00 per hour
