Job Description

Do you have a desire to help the world's best navy Come join The Moored Training Ship (MTS) Hardware Engineering team! This group provides all aspects of the engineering support required to maintain state of the art, high-fidelity, US Navy engine room and reactor plant control room submarine simulators located at the Nuclear Power Training Unit in Charleston, SC. The team also supports the design, build, testing and delivery of the next generation of high-fidelity propulsion plant simulators that will maintain the Navy's nuclear operator training state of the art and first in class. This is an outstanding time to join the team with the on-going expansion of the use of simulators to train naval nuclear plant operators.

The successful candidate will:

Act as the cognizant/lead engineer for specific simulator systems including PLC, sound, communications and audio and video systems. Assist and/or lead engineering efforts to resolve obsolescence issues, including redesign of equipment, in deployed simulators. Assist and/or lead team efforts to troubleshoot and repair deployed simulation equipment. Assist and/or lead team efforts for technical refreshes and upgrades to deployed simulation equipment. Assist and/or lead projects to design, develop and evaluate new simulation technologies. Assist in the design, installation, testing and release for training of the next generation of simulator equipment.

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 6 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 4 years of relevant experience; or Currently or previously Shift Supervisor Part I qualified; or EDO qualified and 2 years EOOW qualified in the Nuclear Operations Program; or 3 years SRE qualified and Water Instructor and Refueling Facility Area Refueling Engineer and Fuel and Barrier Shift Supervisor (ECF only); or SRE qualified and 6 years of experience.

Preferred Skills

Experience with PLC control systems

Experience with single board computers (e.g. Raspberry Pi) or microcontrollers (e.g. Arduino) Experience with AutoCAD Electrical or equivalent design software Experience with audiovisual and telecommunications systems Experience evaluating, and creating, electrical designs based on approved technical requirements Strong communication and collaboration skills Ability to think creatively and make recommendations to senior project personnel Ability to work independently or in a group setting Proficiency in Microsoft Office products

Pay Range

$92,900.00 - $145,200.00 annually Salary information provided is a general guide line only. For nearly 70 years, the Naval Nuclear Laboratory has developed advanced nuclear propulsion technology, provided technical support, and trained world-class nuclear operators to ensure the safe and reliable operation of our nation's submarine and aircraft carrier Fleets.
