Job Description

The Department of Social Science and Cultural Studies at Pratt Institute seeks qualified part-time instructors in Cultural Studies and Gender & Sexuality Studies for 2025-2026. Successful candidates will have a PhD or ABD status in a relevant discipline (e.g., history, anthropology, sociology, American Studies, or related gender and ethnic studies fields) with appropriate research specialization and some teaching experience. Teaching opportunities will include topical seminars in Cultural Studies, Transnational Sexual Politics, or Theories of Gender, and may include introductory courses in cultural studies, history, sociology, or anthropology. We have limited openings for Fall 2025, and will also be seeking instructors in these fields for Spring, 2026. All our course offerings are 3-credit seminars, with enrollment no greater than 22, that meet once per week in a 3-hour time slot.

Appointment will be as a Visiting Instructor or Visiting Assistant Professor (part-time titles under the terms of Pratt’s union contract), and compensation will be $7000 per class. Compensation includes the expectation of keeping 1 office hour per week or equivalent availability for students.
